The Standard Bank CSI Bursary Programme


Standard Bank, in partnership with StudyTrust, offers full cost bursaries to students who have demonstrated academic and leadership potential, who are currently in Grade 12 and will be in their first (1st) year of study in 2016.

♦  Selection criteria


Fields of study

The fields of study are determined by the needs of resourcing and talent in the Bank. 

The following degree programmes are eligible for bursary support in 2017:

The Bank prefers the students in the Bursary Programme to study at the following Institutions of Higher Learning:

*  University of KwaZulu-Natal
*  University of Johannesburg.

♦  Selection criteria
The prestigious Standard Bank CSI Bursary Programme targets high performing candidates who consistently obtained distinctions in Mathematics and, if applicable for the proposed study programme, Physical Science from the following Standard Bank CSI Centres of Excellence:
*  Hammanskraal Project (Gauteng)
*  Hulisani Education and Resource Centre (Limpopo)
*  Kutlwanong (also known as Promaths) (National)
*  Maths Centre Incorporating Sciences (Gauteng) 
*  Osizweni Education and Development Centre (OEDC) (Mpumalanga)
*  Sci-Bono: Secondary School Improvement Programme (SSIP) (Gauteng) 
*  SSP (Gauteng and the Eastern Cape)
*  Star Schools (Gauteng)
*  Sumbandila Scholarship Trust (Limpopo)
*  Targeting Talent Wits (Gauteng)
*  Thandulwazi Maths and Science Academy (Gauteng)
*  TRAC (National).

The main criteria used in the selection of successful applicants for the Standard Bank CSI Bursary Programme are academic excellence, financial need, year of study in 2017, and admission to the designated study programmes.

Academic excellence: Selection will be done on the basis of Grade 11 final results, Grade 12 June results and Grade 12 Pre-lim results

The minimum requirements are: A 70% average and not less than 75% for Mathematics, 70% for Physical Science and 70% for English FAL (or 60% for English HL). However, successful candidates in the past presented no fewer than 5 distinctions
*  The Standard Bank CSI Bursary Programme is for candidates whose parent(s) or guardian(s) would not be able to afford paying their fees and cannot secure a loan with financial institutions except NSFAS. 
*  Learners rural and township background will be given preference
*  Hard working learners who are able to demonstrate the ability that they are more likely to succeed in tertiary study
Please note that the Standard Bank CSI Bursary Programme is only for learners who participated in the centre of excellence mentioned above.

♦  Recruitment
Recruitment of learners will emanate from the alignment with various organizations across the country that specialise in learner development and or social support programme that position selected learner to succeed.

♦  Application procedure
